ABOUT SARA KANGAI, STRATEGIST

Sara Kangai has built digital brands from the ground up with a strong focus on Gen X and Gen Y women based in Africa, the USA and Australia, providing content curation, communications strategy, production, and digital distribution services.

After a stint working in process management for IBM, Kangai went on to run the Marketing and Retail division for one of Africa’s largest beauty distributors, helping to locally launch and grow the footprint for brands such as Estée Lauder, Clinique, Clarins, Fashion Fair, Black|Up, Elizabeth Arden, Essie Professional, Nimue, etc. She also managed brand communications for MAC Cosmetics, Cartier, Paco Rabanne, Burberry, Nina Ricci, YSL, Giorgio Armani, Cacharel, Diesel, Tom Ford, etc in the African market.

Concurrently, she set up Kenya's first YouTube channel dedicated solely to makeup and beauty tips, tricks and tutorials for women of colour. It became one of the top 10 channels in Africa, with over 100,000 subscribers and 7,000,000 views - winning her YouTube awards and numerous accolades across the continent.

Working with international clients as a woman of colour also gave her insight into the intersectionality of diversity and she also counsels clients on how to embrace conscious inclusion in their leadership, hiring, branding and marketing.
