“Only fake people value fake news” ― Oche Otorkpa

‘Fake news’ sprang to prominence during the 2017 US presidential election and has since become a spectre, if not a symbol of the times we’re living in.

It didn't suddenly burst into the public domain; it was percolating under the surface for years before it hit the mainstream, perpetuated by social media and tabloid journalism.

Sadly, many people caught onto its coattails and decided to take a ride on its fantasy train.

Resulting in a large number of people resorting to rhetoric and fake news to stay relevant and admired.

Fast forward to today. You've probably bumped into people who blatantly lie about their accomplishments.

They name drop and cast dispersions on their competition in the same breath.

They say amazing things about their career, business or reputation that aren’t true.

They fawn over others in order to gain their favour or business.

You've given them a side eye. I know it. You've been put off by their hot air.

You've seen through their smoke and mirrors.

Here's where introspection kicks in. Where you have to ask yourself, am I slightly fake too? Especially if you're spending any amount of time with said fake humans.

Without being aware, fake can easily creep into in your own life.

Like when you make plans you never keep, only show up to what’s convenient or enriching for you, try to please everyone, only pay attention to those in power, seek attention to validate yourself, or distract from your flakiness with gossip. Ouch.

The truth is that fake people are never fully trusted - with information, opportunities or good news - by those who are wise, intuitive and have their bull***t meters on high.

They're usually also the key powerbrokers you need to believe in you.

Ultimately pretending to care, overstating the truth or trying to please people can also take a massive toll on the soul.

Fakers eventually emotionally and spiritually collapse or lash out from the pressure of it all.

And when the truth comes out, their reputation is in tatters.

You're here now, which means you know this is NOT your story. Amen to that!

Insight Inspiration:

When it comes to your reputation and brand, keep it real.

Fake news about yourself or your brand only lasts so long. Because the truth always comes to light.

It may take years, but it will rise to the surface eventually. Because truth is irrefutable.

If you’re tempted to talk up yourself up when there’s nothing to show for it, don’t.

If you’re tempted to fawn over and take selfies only with those who will improve your own image, don’t.

If you’re tempted to add spice up your story with hyperbole, don’t — and only speak up about your actual accomplishments with humility.

If you want to understand how to speak wisely and mindfully about your accomplishments, but you need a comprehensive approach and a better understanding of what you can and can’t accomplish, remember that Ambsdr is carefully crafted with this in mind.

We’re here for you.
